Community Car Scheme

The Community Car Scheme is a scheme which provides transport for shorter or longer distances outside of King’s Lynn mainly for medical appointments. The scheme is a chargeable service which is offered by our friendly volunteer drivers using their own vehicles. All volunteers are DBS checked.

What is the cost of the transport?

We charge 45p per mile from the drivers home to the clients pick up point then 50p per mile to the destination. There is also a small additional admin fee. We will always try to find the closest driver available to help make the transport as cost effective as possible for you, this also helps if the booking is made with plenty of notice. We can provide transport for any distance depending on availability of our volunteers.

How do I pay?

You will need to pay the driver cash when you travel. We can offer an option for invoicing after the transport however this needs to be agreed with the office at the time of booking.

Will the driver wait for me?

We offer a wait and return as part of the given price. This may be one or two hours depending on the destination. Should your appointment exceed the given waiting time, you will be charged £7 per additional hour to be paid. However, should you require drop off only or drop and return later transport, please let us know when booking and we will endeavor to accommodate this for you.

Can I take any mobility equipment?

You can travel with mobility equipment as long as it will fold and fit into the boot of a vehicle. When booking please advise us should you wish to travel with equipment and we can then accommodate this when looking for a driver. A companion may travel with you with no additional charge.

Is transport just to the hospital?

No, transport doesn’t have to just be to a hospital. It can be to any medical appointment including opticians, doctors surgeries, chiropractors etc, 7 days a week depending on volunteer availability. Whilst we prioritise medical appointments we can provide transport for shopping or to attend social well being activities using the scheme on weekdays only.
